Teacher’s
Strategies in Teaching Math
Math is one of difficult subject for some students in classroom
learning process. It means that teachers should focus on how to teach math as
well as possible to make students more understand about math. Teachers in
teaching math should have several strategies that they should consider in
teaching process.
The first strategy is teachers give the definition of
what they will explain in classroom teaching process. Definition is the meaning
of the topic which will be explained about. If the teachers give the definition
of the topic, it will help students to catch the topic and they know what they
will do; however, if the teachers don’t give the definition of the topic,
students will confuse. For example, teachers want to explain about median. It
means that teachers should give the definition of median firstly to make
students more understand about it.
The second strategy is teachers give the pattern of
what they will explain. After teachers gave the definition of the topic,
teachers are going to give the pattern of the topic. Pattern will help students
to do the exercises about the topic; although, if teachers don’t give the
pattern, students won’t be able to do the exercises that teachers will give for
them. For example, if the teachers explain about median, teachers should give
the pattern of median.
The final strategy is teachers give students exercises
about the topic. The exercise is one of important activity for students to
measure their understanding about the topic that was explained by teacher
before. The exercises can be given by teacher through giving homework and
answering questions in the last of classroom teaching process.
In conclusion, teachers should have several strategies
in teaching math process that they should consider to make students more
understand about the topic. It will be interesting if teachers follow the three
strategies above.
